The Growing Problem of Obesity: Governments Must Fight the Bulge
Two interesting trends:
- The UK and it’s former colonies own the top of this list, denoting a cultural phenomenon that seems completely unexpected when one considers the historical quality of their food.
- North American countries also dominate this list, and with the overall global increase, one must think the spread of Western Culture is not always a good thing.
Many of these countries, such as Japan, Canada, and Italy, are making significant investments to prevent obesity, save lives, and lower overall health care costs.
For those interested in additional data on the US, see the OECD report here: http://bit.ly/a1QXis.
As a side note, I’m disappointed that the US isn’t broken down by state or region, which could provide some deeper insight into the problem that we face.
